Is your detox program causing more harm than good?
Learn 3 common oversights people make when choosing a detox program - and the questions you need to ask to avoid them:
Supporting the liver: The liver is one of the most important detoxifying organs in our bodies. Through a 2-step mechanism, it first breaks down and then neutralizes and removes chemical waste from our bodies. It is important to ensure that both steps are functioning optimally. Certain foods, nutrients and detox products only support the 1st step of detoxification. This results in the build-up of intermediate
chemicals which can be more toxic to the liver than the original chemicals.
Ask: does my detox program support both steps in the liver detox?
Interactions with medication: Drugs are metabolized and detoxified through the liver. If you speed up or slow down the liver’s detox mechanisms then you will alter the level of certain medications in your blood. This is why grapefruit is avoided with certain medications. Grapefruit slows down the 1 st step in the liver’s detoxification mechanism, causing drugs that use that mechanism to stay in the blood longer.
Ask: are my drugs metabolized through the same mechanisms that my detox program is altering?
Routes of elimination: after exiting the liver, toxins must be eliminated through various organs of the body: bowls, kidneys, skin, and lungs. If these routes of elimination are not functioning optimally then toxins are reabsorbed back into the body resulting in commonly experienced adverse reactions such as headaches, nausea, skin rashes and fatigue. Ask: does my program support all organs involved in detoxification and elimination, ensuring that toxins are not re-absorbed into my body?
