Proven Alternative Ways to help Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common types of arthritis. In a study published in 2011 by the Arthritis Alliance of Canada estimated that OA and Rheumatoid arthritis cost the Canadian economy an estimated 33 billion dollars in 2010 in direct healthcare costs and lost productivity. The report also estimated that within 30 years 1 in 4 or 30 million Canadians is expected to have OA.

Recent research studies have shown that alternative therapies can play an effective role in treating OA.

Shiatsu

Researchers in Taiwan concluded that Shiatsu or Collateral meridian therapy may be feasible and effective for knee OA pain relief and knee function recovery.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is as good as other physical therapies recommended for relief from osteoarthritis pain in the knee, researchers from University of York said.

Homeopathy

Researchers in Korea found that the homeopathic medicine Rhus Tox used in the treatment of arthritis exhibited significant anti-inflammatory properties.

Massage

In a study published in 2006  from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, researchers concluded that massage therapy appeared to be an effective treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee.
