Ever since childhood, Jillian has been an active person, exercising and walking being some of her favorite pastimes to this day. This, in combination with her love of biology and evolutionary science, was what pushed her to seek a greater understanding of optimal health. Particularly during her pregnancy, she researched healthy lifestyles, exercise and dietary requirements, reading from popular pregnancy resources as well as scientific journals, in order to ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby with great passion and enthusiasm.
However, despite all her research and exercise, she began to feel pain, which was at times crippling, in her tailbone, feet, and legs. This culminated in a particularly long and painful labour, with an equally long and painful recovery. Having needed ten days of rest before being able to walk, and longer still (months) before she could regain some of her previous activity levels, it became clear to Jillian that although she had previously considered herself to be a fit person, her body was not functioning the way it was supposed to. It simply did not make sense to her, from an evolutionary perspective, that such a fundamental part of life, carrying and birthing a child, should cause so much chronic pain and physical imbalance. Jillian no longer felt comfortable in her own skin, and began to think that childbirth and age were perhaps to blame after all.
Then she found the Restorative ExerciseTM program. It was as though she had unearthed a formidable hidden treasure; the missing link she had yearned to find but was never covered in the many books and articles she read while pregnant. She found a discipline that combined biology, physics, biomechanics, and evolution, which in addition to being fun and accessible, increased her passion for health and science. More importantly, it helped her to get her own body working properly again, and gave her the tools and knowledge to teach and help others to do the same.
Now, as a certified Restorative ExerciseTM specialist and Healthy Foot practitioner, she dedicates herself to helping others learn about the impact of movement patterns on their health. She declares: “It’s my mission in life to help people understand that what we consider normal aging of the body is not inevitable, that pain doesn’t have to be a part of everyday life, and that many diseases can be reversed without drugs or invasive surgeries. My goal is to bring this information and the Restorative Exercise TM program of movement to people of every level of mobility and health.”
